PA Equipment Donation Advances Music Industry Education

A major milestone has been reached by SUNY Fredonia’s Music Industry Program with the donation of a complete audio system – valued at over $10,000 – from the owners of a Sandusky, Ohio concert hall.

Applied Professional Studies faculty members Armand Petri and Stuart Shapiro took over the massive system which, according to Reneta Barneva, who is a professor and acting chair of the Department of Applied Professional Studies, will put the finishing touches instead of PA and music industry tour. at Thompson Hall.

The professional grade equipment, donated by Dr. Vimal Shiv Kumar and his wife, LeAnn, consists of multiple speakers, subwoofers, amplifiers, equalizers, effect banks and stage lighting , as well as the myriad of items needed for a great stage show.

Dr. Kumar transformed the former Lyman Harbor Entertainment and Event Center, which once featured national and international tours, into the Lyman Harbor Entertainment Complex. With concerts on hiatus, all sound and lighting equipment previously used in the venue, adjacent to Cedar Point Amusement Park, became available for purchase.

Assistant Professor Shapiro, working through the channels with the help of Timothy Weir, a Buffalo-based musician, a colleague of his and a guest speaker in the music industry program, was able to persuade the Kumars to donate all sound equipment to Applied Vocational Studies. program, part of the School of Business.

As soon as it became available, Mr. Petri, multi-platinum speaker and record producer and winner of the Gospel Music Association’s Dove Award, who teaches the Concert Touring and Sound course, and Mr. Shapiro, “hightailed” it. in Ohio for the pickup, Dr. Barneva said.

The equipment completely filled a 15-foot rental truck, Shapiro recalled, and due to the large volume of the donation, it will take some time to test and catalog all the items. This exam is conducted by three student interns – Robert Adkins, a music industry and business administration specialist from Buffalo; Melaney Fajardo, junior music industry and business administration student from Sunnyside, NY; and Yisel Fernandez-Arevalo, senior Music Industry and Business Administration: Brooklyn Finance.

The estimated value of the entire donation is between $10,000 and $15,000, possibly more, Shapiro noted.

Thompson Hall W101 was renovated last summer to accommodate MUSB 470: Concert Touring and Sound, a required course for the Music Industry Diploma.
