The sixth annual festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday October 16e and 17e. The free, family-friendly festival will feature live murals, an art village, a nationally recognized band on Saturday night, and even an Art Dual with some of Texas’ best street performers.

Levi Ponce of Los Angeles will be this year’s featured mural artist, painting a mural featuring a Washington County native at the corner of Commerce and South Park Street. A second mural will be added at the corner of Commerce and Douglas Street by Brenham artist and high school art teacher Brooke Trahan, with the help of her students. The artists will begin the installation on Friday October 15e and will complete their work by Sunday, October 17e.

Jordan Matthew Young and his award-winning rock and soul band from Austin will take to the main stage at Commerce and Park Street at 7 p.m. Saturday. Young was recently named a finalist for Season 20 of The Voice on NBC. The Brenham Children’s Chorus will kick off the free concert on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Vendors and food trucks will set up shop on Park and Commerce Street to sell a variety of items ranging from paintings and pottery to crafts. The Village des Arts will be open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

New this year, the festival will host an Art Dual where 12 street artists from across the state compete for cash prizes. The artists will be elected by the festival-goers in a round robin tournament. Each artist will paint a 4ft by 8ft canvas, and the collection on display will be updated hour by hour. The Dual Art is organized in partnership with Something Cool Studios founded by Luis Angulo, who was a featured artist at last year’s festival.

The Texas Arts and Music Festival was established in 2016 to provide an event for art and music lovers while also paving the way for students interested in an arts education. The festival supported area school programs in Brenham, Burton and Sealy.
